If Holland wins the World Cup this summer...?

and Bayern wins the CL title do you think Arjen Robben should be named World Player of the Year?

Clearly Messi has been brilliant this season, but Robben has to be among the top candidates too.

If Robben can help lead both club and country to glory I think he would have to be given the award. Even without a CL triumph, winning the WC might be enough to earn the title.

I'm sure he'll be there and if Holland win the World Cup, he would be front runner depending on how he performs. I was going to ask something about Holland because I feel they are real contenders this year. They have some of the best players in the world in their team and could really push for it. Hopefully Van Persie amongst others can stay fit and really help their challenge!

A very interesting question. Robben, as you mentioned, has been awesome throughout the whole season for Bayern Munich. Right from the very first match he played for Bayern he started scoring goals and him with Ribery (Robbery) are truly two great players making an important role for Bayern. However it is doubtful if Ribery would play in the final of the Champions League or not, because of his foul. It hasn't been decided whether he plays or not, but it will be an important factor.

Robben with Holland also has the potential to play a great world cup. Holland has also got an awesome team with a great goalkeeper and a brilliant midfield. The attack is also good, but the problem is their defence as it has been for years now. Van der Sar on his own can't do anything if he doesn't get some good defenders in front of him. If Holland manages to have a good defence during the world cup, I believe they can actually win it, assuming that they also have a good attack.

If Robben could be world player of the year? Hmmm, a good question. Messi has been great too, as you mentioned, but in most cases the player of the year comes from a team that has won an international tournament (last year Messi, before that Ronaldo, 2006 Cannavaro...). If Holland manages to win the world cup and if Bayern wins the Champions League, I don't think anybody apart from Robben should win the world player of the year award. But in my opinion Robben although he is awesome for Bayern, still doesn't have THAT name as Ronaldo and Messi have at the moment. If the people voting only look at the current season and if they are unbiased, they would choose Robben.

But for that he needs to take Bayern AND Holland to victory, which is not really unlikely, but will be difficult.

Robben imo is a good player but disappointingly also injury prone much like Robin van Persie of Arsenal.

remember when he played for Chelsea they won the titles back to back.with his superb run and acute finishing he is definitely a true gem in the Chelsea squad at that time.

however his injury kept increasing and also the call from Real Madrid made him left Chelsea only to find his place in the Galacticos limited by injuries.

I don't think he will win World Player of the year based on current crop of Holland's player as Holland had a better squads in the previous WCs but still had to take an early shower by poor performances during tight games.

Robben is putting a superb season and what a bargain for 25M euros! Right now Robben is easily worth 40M... If Messi wouldn't be having the season he is, Robben would be front runner.

It could happen but that's a big IF man... I would love to see Robben win it because he is a great great player and a great person.. I like all the dutch players they play awesome... I would had loved to see Gullit and Van Basten in Milan in the late 80's early 90's...

Right now Robben is the best pure winger in the world... I said for over a year now on this forum; Robben is better than Ribery. But Robben has to be healthy though, that's his biggest enemy...

Yes I think Robben should be named player of the year. I think he is the best player in the world right now. He can do many things Messi cannot do and Messi cannot do many things he can do. He has proven his worth at Bayern and will prove his worth for holland as well. I think Holland will do very well in the wc because of his likes and the likes of van persie, van bommel, and sneijder.

Holland have an ideas-blowing threat of triumphing the international cup this 12 months, they're in my genuine 4 alongside with England,Brazil and Argentina yet i think of its a sturdy time for the Dutch as they have an extremely proficient squad.

Yeah.... Like ive always said Robben is an underated player who is just as good as C. Ronaldo and Messi. As you can see he is showing the world what a great player he is. I think Pellegrini messed up in selling him. I would much rather have Robben than Kaka. Watch this video of him that will blow you away.

Yup. It seems he is having a great season at Bayern Munich. On 17 April 2010, he scored his first hat-trick in the Bundesliga against Hannover 96 in the Allianz Arena. And the killer goal at Old Trafford. Yesterday, he scored against Lyon.

But still got to wait for after the FIFA World Cup. Still too early to predict. But a good shout. You have a good point though.
