Flood: Vinyl & Carpet Soaked (2br, bath, livingroom, kitchen), Toilet running, flapper up, big mess, help?
I left at 7:30pm and came back at 12pm. The toilet was running. It didn't go over the top and the flapper was open. It crept from the bathroom through the carpet in the living room & both bedrooms, to the kitchen. The back half of the living room is still dry. What a mess. When I press the carpet it's dry on top and soaked underneath.
Can an open flapper valve running cause flood damage. there was cat & wife hari around the bowl of the toilet so it didn't overflow because it was clogged.
we cleaned the vinyl up with a towel, but it's still wet under the carpets.

I wood use a shop vac to get as much water out of the carpet as possible, then get a fan and dehumidifier going to dry it out. It sounds like you may have a bad wax ring on the toilet, this is under the toilet so I could have slowly leaked out on the floor. If this is the case you will have to pull the toilet and replace the wax ring. You can see it done on utube if you don’t know how. Good luck.

don't know about where the water came from that's tough to know without being there.i would call your local mold remediation company to come in and dry up the water.the price they charge is worth the damage that the water will cause later.and they may even be able to track down the cause of the flooding.they are usually pretty fast at getting to your house.good luck
