Skipping my period every few months?

I've had my period for almost 6 years now, and so far I've skipped several months, especially lately. I know a few of them are due to stress, but also a possible hormonal imbalance. For example, in 2009, I skipped March, August, and November. This March I've skipped yet again due to stress. I'm not sexually active, so I've never seen it as much of a problem.

Got any advice on how to try to regulate myself? I've started eliminating some of the stresses in my life, so I'm expecting to get back into the normal swing of things soon, but yet I'm still leery if I'll just continue skipping, and if I do, if there's something more than a progesterone imbalance that I should be concerned about.

Update:

I'd go on birth control if there weren't so many dangerous side effects. I'd rather NOT be on anything like that.

Start by using birth control, if possible.

This will regulate your cycle in most cases.

that's thoroughly wide-spread, do not concern approximately it, yet its a sturdy concept to work out your physician; he/she would provide you start administration pills to establish which you to have common sessions (as quickly as a month)
