Female Leg Hair: Which is worse?

1. A woman's legs, free of hair, covered in red bumps, scabs, and blotchy, irritated skin, or

2. A woman's legs, with very fine, translucent, non-prickly hairs all over, and soft, even-toned, healthy, non-irritated skin?

I've just about had it with shaving. Every single time I try, I end up with irritation as described above, and can't bear to show my legs in public until the scabs and irritation has healed somewhat. Then the ingrown hairs start popping up, and I have to shave again to scrape them open and start the whole cycle over again. Bah! Annoying.

So I've tried not shaving (just my legs, not that it matters), and now that the hair has grown out past the stubble phase, I've found I'm quite happy with it. No more irritation, the skin looks smooth and clear, and nobody has ever noticed the hair on my legs (even when I wear short-shorts). I've discovered a new sensation - I can actually feel the breeze rippling through the hairs on my legs, and it's the most fascinating thing ever.

What's your take, Yahoo Answerers?

Update:

Actually, I've tried high end razors and awesome shaving cream (Skintimate sucks... except the newer actual cream shave... foam sucks, cream's OK) but it's just my legs. They're too sensitive. *shrug*

Update 2:

And I know people aren't actually noticing because my roommate would DEFINITELY say something, she makes no bones about stating her opinion, and she even once commented "Oh, you just showered, you're all clean and you even shaved and everything" when I hadn't.

Update 3:

Funny you should mention the epilator, I've actually tried one of those, too. It wasn't the pain that bothered me so much, it was the chicken-pox look that I got afterwards. It looked like a bad allergic reaction or something. Not sexy. It works great for some people, though, I'm glad it works well for you! :)

I personally would never let my legs go without shaving and I don't have problems with irritation or ingrown hairs either. Maybe your not doing it right? I would try a expensive razor and shave gel for sensitive skin before I would go hairy. But it is completely up to you. I know when I see a woman with hairy legs I am shocked she would wear shorts and show that off but I would never say anything to the person. Maybe people are noticing and just not mentioning it. After all, it really isn't any ones business but your own.

Well a days ago (like this tuesday) I started "shaving" for once. Well not really shaving. I only shaved my underarms because that would be disgusting if I didn't. Anyways I found out that shaving is so annoying. So I bought an epilator. Which are like a bunch of tweezers in one little thingy. Since it was the first time I ever touched the hair on my legs it hurt a lot. BUT the results are soo worth it. It's been two days and not one hair has grown back, or been shown. And it's super soft like a baby's bottom. :D

Also people said it won't grow back for another month or couple weeks. Plus it gets less painful the more you use it.

unrefined cocoa butter is supposed to stop irritation. Maybe you can buy some from coastal scents or something. Also have you tried nair or lush's shaving cream?
