doctors can correct genetic mutations TODAY
example: a child is born with a deficiency for a protein (the gene for it mutated), a plasmid can be shot into tissue using a gene gun and the gene will be expressed
you could also use a lambda phage (a virus body) with the gene inside and it will be expressed

polyploidy is when an entire genome is duplicated in the next generation
this commonly happens when either a cell going through meiosis does cytokinesis (splits) too early, or it can also happen if the DNA that has been duplicated does not sepparate before cytokinesis
