Smartphone for Europe Vacation?

I am going to Paris for 10 days. Is there a cheap way to email while there, without comitting to a phone with a long term plan? I don't have a laptop. If I buy an Itouch would that work in WiFi places? Is there another smartphone like Itouch where I can just email and not get on a phone plan?

    I am typing this on my iPhone 3GS.

    Buy the first iPhone= $50-90 and get a cheap contract (unlimited texting and Internet) when you don't want contract sell it on the internet to someone they buy out your contract

    many phones can send the email in the market now,lke blackberry phone,iphone,HTC and so on.and blackberry phones are most popular.
