Dog....pregnant or not ?
Our Cavalier female was on heat and she was taken to a breeder to spend time with the male cavalier for a deliberate mating. Ten days she was with them and the breeder says it didnt work out and that they didnt mate. This was one month ago. For the past week she has gotten very large and her nipples are prominent. She appears very much like our other cavalier female did when she was in pup. This girl was cranky and bad tempered the first week or so back at home, and off her food for awhile. Now she is very needy and wanting cuddles all the time and eating very well. She is growing day by day. All I have read about false pregnancies doesnt seem to fit her behaviour. If she were pregnant she would be around 4-5 weeks by now.....and she certainly looks like she is.
The breeder says they didnt mate, but our cavalier spent 24 hours a day in the yard with the male cavalier and slept with him in his kennel as well for all of that ten days she was there.
I am wondering if the 20 mins or so it takes for a mating did actually occur when the breeder may not have witnessed it...either through the night, early morning or when the breeder was away on the phone or taking a shower or tending to her young children, or taking her kids to school etc ?
Surely she cant have watched them 24 hours a day with no break ?
I will take her to the vet next week for a checkup. But meanwhile we are perplexed.
What do you think ? Does it sound like she is pregnant or not ?

There is a slight chance your dog may be pregnant because of the the enlarging of her nipples and if she is gaining weight everyday then she probably is if she is wanting to be cuddled all the time it may be because of her belly being sore, and or she has a belly problem that may need serious attention but I would take her to vet and make sure she is pregnant and not carrying any type of pest inside her that is causing her to eat regularly if she is pregnant she would be eating lots of food. There may have been a chance that the male had impregnated her while the owner was away so she may be pregnant now and you may not know it, but like I said have a vet check her to make sure she is or not and if she is to check on the puppies make sure everything okay with the puppies and then always have routine check-ups on her to check the heartbeats of the babies.

A responsible breeder would never just let the dogs breed at will
Neither you or the breeder have a clue what should have been done for the safety of the dogs
Choosing a stud and stud owner is one of the most important things that need to be well thought out before choosing a stud. Your b*tch and any resulting pups, health and well being depend on it.
Take her to the vet, have an emergency spay done on her. There is no way of knowing without them having been properly supervised if her dog or any dog being able to get onto the property could have tied with her.
BTW there is no reason why you should have left her with the so called breeder for 10 days.
Let alone left outside all day every day and kenneled with the male...
Absolutely irresponsible on so many levels!
Have an emergency spay done, leave breeding to the professionals.

What does it matter what WE think? gods I hate these questions. She could just as easily be having a false pregnancy. It's different for every dog hell some bitches even go through a form of labor while having a false pregnancy. So what if the mating was deliberate its obvious neither you or the stud owner know what the hell you are doing. Why on EARTH would you leave your ***** with someone who left her unattended like that? You do realize if she were OUTSIDE in any area accessible to other males she may give birth to mutts.
"Surely she cant have watched them 24 hours a day with no break ?" Which is why went GOOD breeders do this the dogs are SEPARATED when they cannot be supervised. Hell without DNA testing done for EACH pup against her male neither your or her can prove that any pups she MAY give birth to were sired by that male for the simple fact there was no WITNESSED matings and its apparent this woman let them do whatever.
My advice - have your ***** spayed and don't ever attempt to breed again until you have educated yourself.

You asked how long PUPPIES are pregnant for. I hope your dog is not a puppy but a bit*ch over 2 years of age. If she is under 2 years of age, take her to the vet for an urgent spay. The gestation period is 63 days, give or take a day. I guess it would be a silly question to ask if she has all the appropriate health certificates for the breed or if she is titled.

A responsible breeder would have separated them when she could not supervise them, so ask her. Take your girl to the vet for an ultrasound to see if there are any pups. Could be a false pregnancy which greatly increases the likelihood of pyometra.

It sounds like the breeder your took your girl to was not very good. Responsible breeders do NOT leave the male and female unattended together. First of all, If someone is paying you money to breed their b*tch you MUST witness the breeding. Secondly, it is quite possible for one or both to be injured if left to their own devices, especially if one or both are inexperienced.
If you need to ask this question here it is a sign that you don't know anywhere near enough to be breeding.
Please go do some serious research on responsible breeding.

She could be since the breeder was irresponsible and left them alone and not supervised them.
I won't go into how they could have fought and you could have lost your female...just take your dog to the vet and have her checked instead of asking on here..
oh and there's more to being a breeder then knowing the lingo...

Your question - "What do you think?"
It sounds like a typical story from a backyard breeder.
I think you should take her into the vet for an emergency spay, and after the procedure is done you can ask the vet if she was pregnant or not.
Your veterinarian is the only one who can give you this kind of information.

Maybe she has video going? So likely no, but is there a chance....well yes! Anytime a male and female get together and they are suppose to mate, very likely!
