Obama playing politics with a true tragedy?

Why is President Obama attending the memorial service of the 29 miners that died in the horrible tragedy here in West Va. Where was he during the initial response? Why come here and use a memorial service for political gain? He and VP Biden are both in attendance. Why didn't he come tour the disaster area? Politics is ugly.

Update:

I wouldn't have said anything either way. I just think politics is sad. My Governor Manchin was at the site day one when the tragedy happened. He was there with the families, lending them support and comfort. Obama would have been better served there among the people that needed him most.

Update 2:

I agree that this is to honor the families. Obama should have been there to honor the families when they didn't know what was going on. When they were waiting and hoping and for great news. I am honoring the miners by standing up for them. They would not want this made into a political statement.

Update 3:

BTW, Bush was at the Sago mine disaster DURING the search.

I have been saying the same thing for weeks but the Obamabots always respond with the same rhetoric as directed by the Administration, corporate america is evil and we should do away with them.

A more honest approach would be to hear all sides and wait for FACTS to be found.

Unfortunately, some are rushing to judgment for political gain or to avoid blame. Our goal is to communicate transparently as the facts unfold.

Why do you Republicans find something to criticise Obama for, even when he's doing something good? You're all the most pathetic " looking for things to complain about" individuals that exist in this world.

He'd only have been in the way of the rescue efforts and not being a coal miner what was he to inspect, you ungrateful SOB?

He's doing the Presidential attendance of the memorial to show his sorrow and respect to the miners and their families. Bush wouldn't have done it any different. if he didn't come to the memorial you'd be complaining about that. Just SHUT UP already.

  • 1. He decided to go to the memorial where he could pass on his condolences to ALL the families of the 29 victims.

    2. How is this political? He hasn't said a word yet, and he is merely standing and paying his tributes to 29 of his fellow Americans.

    3. He hasn't toured the site because that would be fake and superficial. Something Bush would have done, I am sure.

    4. He lets his talking be done at the White House. He isn't going to bash or go after anyone - he is paying his respects, and then going home. He met privately with all the family members, and I think that speaks volumes. Better than letting salvation sit over the border for 5 days before getting the basics to the victims, isn't it??

The problem with that statement is that you are not thinking about the people who were killed. This was the worst mining accident in U.S. history, so why dont you think about the victims instead of about what the so called politics of this are. The President is supporting the families and delivering the eulogy in the memorial service so instead of being so critical why dont you give him credit for doing something that any President would do in the aftermath of a tradgedy.

If he didn't go, then someone would be in here saying, "Oh -- why didn't he come? He's too good for West Virginia coal miners? He's an elitist!" -- Doesn't matter what he does -- someone will criticize him, haha -- That's what I love about him -- he does what he thinks is right.

Politics is indeed very, very ugly and tragedies are used quite often for political gain.

You'd complain no matter which site he would have shown up at. Perhaps you one of the reasons politics is ugly.

"Politics is ugly!", says it well. This is "tres gauche" to exploit such a tragedy for crass purposes.
