    Used to have a 1976 Yamaha YZ 125. Not 100% sure but I think this was the first production mono shock bike.

    Yamaha coined and patented the term "mono-shock" in the 70's and it would be the first long travel single shock suspension. Anything invented before that would not be long travel race suspension, but have no idea who first introduced the single rear shock.
