The LDS church has more sources of information than most of our Christian brothers and sisters.

We believe that there is a living prophet and has been since 1830. These prophets have taught, revealed, and clarified lost truths.

We believe the Book of Mormon is an ancient book of scripture that was written in the Americas by prophets of God.

We believe in additional scripture that has been published in modern times.

We also believe in the Bible, both old and new testaments.

Let me ask you this: Why is it that you ONLY believe in God's prophets who lived in the middle east anciently? If God had prophets in other places, wouldn't their words be just as important as those that are in the Bible? If God has living prophets on the earth today, wouldn't those words be even more important because they are for us and not for the mortals of 3000 years ago?

LDS members get their values directly from God, given to them through prophets, both in ancient and modern times. Joseph Smith did NOT write the Book Of Mormon. He translated it. It was written by prophets in the Americas before and after the birth of Jesus Christ.

Um.. they get their "religious information" from the King James version of the Bible and the other standard works of the LDS Church. They use the entire Bible and do not pick and choose, if that is what you are implying. The values are of their members are generally respected as being of the highest quality.

The other scriptures accepted by the LDS Church are the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price.

Mormon/LDS doctrine comes primarily from the teachings of Joseph Smith, from their additional scriptures, and from prophets that have come since Joseph Smith. They believe the Bible but practically, they draw from it only what confirms Smith and the rest of the crew.

Mormons believe that a living prophet is better than a dead one. Read: they can proclaim anything they want to and not have existing scripture hold them accountable. That's scary. But rest in the knowledge that real prophets always agree with previous revelations, don't copy from other prophets, and prove their prophetic calling by having a 100% success rate from their prophecies. LDS/Mormon prophets cannot honestly claim this.

While most Christians view the bible as the....well, bible of Christianity, Mormons do not. This seems difficult for people of other religions to comprehend and probably sounds blasphemous.

The foundation of the church is the words of the living prophets and apostles with Christ being the chief cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20). Mormons teach from the bible and other ancient and more current scriptures. These provide valuable, practical lessons of life as we see the results of earlier peoples successes and failures. But the words of the living prophet takes presedence.

If you are familiar with the bible, then you know that God differs in what he directs his people to do in various times and situations. Though God never changes, the way that he directs us differs depending upon need. For example, looking back over the history of the world, we see that there were differing rules as to eating practices, who could hold the priesthood, how war was used, etc. Mass exoduses and the taking over of lands were directed by a living prophet. In the time just after Christ died, members of the church lived communaly and were commanded to sell their belongings and give the money to the apostles (see Acts 4:30 thru Acts 5:10). We no longer do this. However, members of the church give 10 percent of their increase to the church for the building up of the kingdom of God.

Mormons believe that we are saved by faith in Christ. However, the word faith means much more to Mormons than just a passing belief. The word faith is associated with faithfulness and trust. Like if I was hanging from a cliff with a rope, I would need to place my faith in that rope. It is more than belief. It is the kind of belief that motivates to action. Mormons believe that our faith grows to a powerful force as we strive to live Christlike lives, sacrifice for Christ and keep the commandments.

Other things that Mormons believe include:

    1. Creating strong families and that families can exist beyond the grave.

    2. temple building and temple worship. As in the time of Moses, temples are used to help members come into the presence of God.

    3. Unpaid clergy. No one is paid in the church but almost all members have some sort of responsibility such as leadership, teaching, clerical, etc. Also, all male members at the age of 12 receive the priesthood or varying degrees of authority to act in Gods name.

    4. Mormons are actively striving to teach the gospel to the world and the church currently has about 60.000 missionaries worldwide.

    5. Mormons believe that God is literaly the father of our spirits and that we lived with him as spirit children before the earth was created. God's purpose is for our welfare and progression. The purpose of man is to have joy.

    6. The church is led by a prophet and 12 apostles who receive revelation to direct the work here.

To Mormons, this is the most exciting time in the history of the world to live. The work of the church is expanding prior to the second coming of Christ. In addition to thousands of houses of worship, there are over 130 temples situated around the world. Mormons think of the great work that is going on as more miraculous than the splitting of the red sea in the days of moses.

I'm an outsider, but from what I've learned, Joseph Smith received a private revelation from the Angel Moroni. Their Apostles receive divine Revelations to this day and will so in the future.

Perhaps and LDS insider could correct me, if I am wrong.

We accept the entire Bible as the word of God and we use the King James version, which we believe to be the most accurate of the English translations. We strive to live the teachings of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and acknowledge him as the Redeemer of all mankind.

We also believe in a living prophet who resides upon the earth today. The true Church of Jesus Christ was restored to the earth in (in 1830) it's fullness as promised in the scriptures. There are Apostles and Prophets to whom God reveals his will just as he did in biblical times. The official name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is Christ's Church and we are living in the Latter-days as foretold in the bible. Saints are merely members of the Church as indicated by New Testament writings.

I can answer this question in one word: God!

We are the one true church. All other church's are plagues and abominations.

Look at how homosexuality is running rampant in this country.

You don't see that happening in Utah.

    Want to know why?

Because we would rather see our young men who are like that dead, than to have them place that unclean thing in their mouth!

Make fun of us all you want but we used democracy to pass Prop 8 in California and you will see one of us in the white house.

And then the gays will REALLY have something to worry about it.

Ultimately from an angel of light.

Satan was kicked out of heaven because of his pride, he said that he would exalt his throne above God. So in his pride he made himself a God and was kicked out of heaven. Mormons believe that if they do every thing right they too will become Gods sound familiar. One can twist single scripture to say what every one wants, in order to support church doctrine. Restored church that is very amusing. So what Jesus said that the gates of hell would not prevail over his word, they would have you believe that Jesus failed and it took super Joe Smith to right the wrong. Further more Jesus is not the spirit brother of Satan. JESUS IS GOD!

Don't get me wrong there are a lot of good people in the Mormon church, I am sorry that Satan appeared as an angle of light and deceived many
