Question on garnishments?

i have a garnishment the total bill is $610. based on my income it is $217/pay check. i estimate 3 checks to be garnished. my first garnishment is to be done 4/29. I do have some savings I could pay the judgment or let them take out of the next few checks. What do you suggest i do?

Update:

the first payment is set to come out 4/29 i asked the creditor could i pay the balance and was told i could pay in full but would have to wait until HR gives the refund of 217 back to me.

It's really too bad that you allowed this to progress to a garnishment. Companies don't like them, and while they cannot legally fire you for having your pay garnished, it looks bad (and some companies may look for other reasons to terminate your employment).

Ask HR how they want you to handle this. It may cost them less to send in the garnishment payment and you pay the debt collector the balance than to have to issue you a refund. Do what they think is best. Make sure you get documentation that the debt was paid in full and the garnishment order has been rescinded.

I would pay it out of my savings. It would be an embarrassment for me to have my wages garnished. Plus it is a hassle for a HR manager, I know I have to process my companies wage garnishment's.

Pay the bill out of your savings, personally I would never want my employer to know that I had a court order against me to have my wages garnished.

Garnishing out of your paycheck may have some fees.

Some employers charge $100 just to process the garnishment.

Plus, if you pay the company may not ever find out you got sued.

Absolutely pay this off from your savings. The real question is - why did you let this go this far if you have the money? You really should have paid them or worked out an agreement while this debt was in collections.
