When expanding a binomial, how do you know when the signs alternate between the different terms?

For instance if you have (x-y)^15, how do you know when the sign is positive or negative?

Like the first terms are x^15, 15x^14y, 105x^13y^2....but what sign goes in between them?

    Hi,

The first term will be positive and then the signs alternate, so even-numbered terms are negative, and odd-numbered terms are positive.

    I hope that helps!! :-)
