Why do 'Acts of God' always have to be bad things?

Has anyone else noticed that whenever something really terrible happens (like the Haiti Earthquake or, less importantly, the Icelandic Volcano), it is inevitably going to be described as an 'Act of God'. Why is it that this term is only used for bad events? Why does God never do any good acts any more?

Update:

FYI, I know that these are known as 'natural disasters', but people still refer to them as Acts of God.

I sometimes think we're looking for something to place the blame on that's easier than explaining the natural processes involved...

the phrase was coined by the insurance industry, who tend not to be terribly Godly people....

They are only called that to instill fear in the flock. Nature causes natural disasters not God. People reach out and help victims of disasters, not God.

The horrible, excruciating screams of atheists burning in hell for simply not believing in god is not necessarily a bad thing. What choice does god have? It's not as if it can just appear to the atheists to prove his existence, that would mean there is no longer faith, but evidence.

  • That is the power of nature

You saying that those are "acts of God" is your opinion. Not everyone says that so you fail. lol

... they are not bad things... they are good things. Sometimes they have to happen... for better things to be created.

But on the other hand... if you think about this spiritually... isn't it Satan whose destroying the earth... just to spite God. God is invisible, Satan is invisible... but the things they do are visible.

How about when the earthquake struck Chile and the news said there was going to be a sunami (?) to hit Hawaii, but people prayed and it didn't happen?

  • Because god wants everyone to know what a bada$$ he is.

It is unsaved man's description, - unsaved man does not have a very high opinion of God.

People tend to take credit for themselves when good things happen to them.
