is my 4 months old puppy having a seizure?
my puppy was sitting down looking at me, everything as normal when he started to get weak, he started bobbing his head and seemed to gently fall over like he was unable to hold himself up. he laid there without losing consciousness, and several minutes later he was able to stand up. however, this pattern has repeated itself several times over the past hour. seizure? toxin?
thank you to all who responded, i did take my puppy to the vet. he ate marijuana! wow! my puppy was just super stoned.
so glad it was something nasty that he ate that is all natural and he is gonna be a-okay! much better to hear that then the alternative. we were super scared for a "second" there!
again thank you!
have a great day everyone! :)

When they have a seizure, there is a visible shaking after they fall over. Normally in a grand mal you see drooling or loss of urine or both. This can last seconds or minutes.
Since you have a pup, take him to a vet.

OK so please dont listen to anyone else Seizures can be controlled depending on their cause which is not clear in your question Epilepsy is the main cause of seizures in dogs and can be controlled with a special tablet prescribed ONLY by your veterinarian called phenibarbitone which she will have to take for the rest of her life Seizures are an over stimulation of the nervous system so that is potential reason why your pup seizes when she gets overly excited. If the dog seizes turn off the lights , dont touch the dog, dont talk to the dog, turn of any radio/ sources of stimuli and time the seizure - Any seizure lasting longer than 5 minutes is a danger to your pet because it can cause there brain to overheat so she should be taken to a vet straight away When the dog comes out of the seizure monitor it from afar and let it come to you in its own time because they can be disorientated and have personality changes.

It does sound like a seizure. They are funny things, it could be a one time thing, or they could come often. My dog has seizures. Only once in a while. I don't medicate her for them, I figure the medicine would be harder on her than having the seizures. There is not too much the vet can do unless it is happening when you are there. The vet might give medicine if it happens often. But like others have said, in a puppy it could be something else as well.

Hi,
Sometimes recognizing a seizure is difficult because a minor seizure, known as a petite mal seizure, may cause only a slight loss of motor control. Conversely, a grand mal seizure is severe, causing a dog to fall to the ground with uncontrollable convulsions, generally losing bladder and bowel control. Here are more info:

It sounds like either a seizure or a syncope episode. If he stopped breathing, it sounds more like a syncope episode. Hard to tell. Please don't waste time. Puppy is too Young. Either way, please get your pup to a vet. Puppy's do not "shake" after they fall. They seizure, and then fall over, usually to one side, can act as though they are trying to bite the air, and tremble. Sometimes lose urine or bowels. The time span can seem like forever to an owner and you have every reason to be concerned.
