What happens if I plug a mono pin into a stereo socket?

If I plug a mono pin into my computer line in jacket, will I only get the input in one side or will the mono signal be repeated in both sides? Also again if I press I plug a mono cable into my stereo output of my pc, what happens? Will be the stereo signals be mixed and sent through the mono channel? Thank you.

You just get the one channel - left I believe, it doesnt mix it for you, however you can go to your audio settings and select mono output which will mix both sides into the one for you.

In any case, no harm will be done along the way.
