why is demonoid down?

It's like a 24/7/365 friend for the internet :P

Anyway, anyone who would tell you some sort of "news" about it would most likely not be credible, because there is no official Demonoid contact source outside of their website.

http://checkw.com/demonoid.com shows that it is offline, and I am getting that error too.

I'd just suggest that you wait it out. Soon, everyone will know what is going on.

Well done, Financial_Wiz1 for giving us this crucial link: downforeveryoneorjustme.com. Yes, Demonoid has been down most of 27 April, as has Giga (those who know, know). I'm not sure if they're hosted in the Ukraine as well, but it seems the two are often connected.

I hope it's nothing serious, because contrary to some commenters' opinions above, Demonoid is the best site for its content. No one can touch it.

Since Xtremespeed.net and Giga***** plus Demonoid are all coincidentally down, I MAY have to believe that it does have something to do with the new UK DEA anti-piracy Bill (they may be rejiggering which IPs may access the sites).

It's down for me as well. I really don't understand people who say Demonoid is not good. I've found nothing better. There has rarely been an occasion that demonoid hasnt had what I'm looking for. I was told that revolutiontt is better but I have had many more issues with revott.

Demonoid is down for updates and upgrades to see how much the site is used a few bug fixes are being worked on also if anybody was wondering whats going on demonoid is not being sued or anything has nothing to do with the uk goverment eaither just simple updates and maintenance.

Demonoid goes down all the time. It is too early to panic, besides the quality of the site has gone downhill since their last major downtime. Besides, if you are resourceful there are many other better places to find what you are looking for. Don't get me wrong, Demonoid is one of the sites that has helped to bring us this far in the torrenting world, but IMHO they really have fallen by the wayside.

Yeah.. down for me as well... and, I'm very interested about what someone said concerning xtremespeeds.net being down as well.. which is also run from the Ukraine. I'm more worried about xtremespeeds than Demonoid because it's private, and has an EXCEPTIONAL variety of "stuff" on it. I sincerely hope that both are back up soon. I downloaded from demonoid last night... like, it wasn't that long ago that their tracker was up and running smoothly. same with xtremespeeds. I'm prettty damn sure that they will be back up relatively soon, but... don't quote me lol.

I started a torrent to see if I could connect and began uploading immediately. This test proves the server is still there and still working. When Demonoid came back online a few months ago they posted periods of downtime would probably occur! Probably just a maintenance being performed!

Shut up Alexander, you don’t know what you’re talking about. They don’t “give” anything since they don’t host anything. It’s just a tracker. Secondly, you can’t “go to jail” simply for downloading. You might have to pay a fine, but it has to be proven that YOU yourself downloaded a particular torrent. For example, your wireless could be easily hacked and you may not have anything to do with the infringement. This happens more often than people realize. “Virus,” you say? Only an idiot would open a file before scanning it. Besides, Demonoid is good at removing infected files and the uploader will be banned. So stop spreading disinformation. Lastly, they’re probably just doing some maintenance. For everyone else, I would wait it out and use a VPN if you’re that concerned about your privacy.

I have the same problem :/ I just hope it's not a long wait like last time it was down. But it is different this time, This time it doesn't acknowledge that Demonoid is a site. At least last time there was a maintenance page...
