Am I right to say Lucian Bute is at best no. 4 among the current super middleweight?

Yes he has a perfect record and high KO rate but i think he needs more high profile fights under his belt to prove himself. The Miranda win was good but not to say he is the best in his weight class. I see Ward, Direll, Martinez (who recently moved up), and Kessler being better than him. I don't even think he'll get pass Pavlik. What do you think?

I think ranking Lucian Bute number 4 in the super middleweight division currently is underrating him. I can see ranking Andre Ward above him (although it's debatable) but Sergio Martinez has never fought at 168 pounds, so you can't rank him in that division, and Andre Dirrell is good but he lost to Carl Froch, so if you have Dirrell higher than Bute, then you must have Froch and Mikkel Kessler (who just beat Froch) higher than Bute.

Personally, I think that Bute deserves to be ranked number 1 in the super middleweight division, although you could make a case for Ward, but I chose Bute because he's proven himself more than Ward has and he's beaten more top contenders as of right now. Ward beat Edison Miranda in a unanimous decision and he dominated Kessler in a technical decision but those are his only 2 really notable victories while Bute on the other hand knocked Miranda out in 3 rounds, beat the top contender Librado Andrade twice (and in the rematch knocked him out in 4 rounds), and he beat the top contender Sakio Bika in a unanimous decision.

I'm not saying that Bute is better than Ward or that he would beat him if they ever were to fight, I just believe that based on their performances and resumes at 168 pounds, Bute deserves to be ranked number 1 above Ward at the moment. That could all change depending on how the Super Six tournament pans out, but I think at the worst, Bute should be ranked number 2 although most people, including myself have him ranked number 1.

Bute will have to beat Ward or Chad Dawson to get my vote for #1.

#4 is OK for him right now.

The biggest knock on Lucian is that he never leaves Montreal, he needs a couple big name fights outside his own back yard in order to cement legitimate elite status, but that said, he is still a force to be considered at 168.
