LCD screen for $7,114 ?

I have a 2 year old, $2000 (on sale?) Sony KDL-52W3000 (52" LCD HD flat screen) with the VERY common problem of a bad LCD screen that has multiple images in horizontal fuzzy bars on the left side.

I have checked several web sites and the price of the LCD panel (part # 80259312) is hovering around $7,114.00 !!??!!

What the hell is up with that? Is this Sony's way of discontinuing not only the model but also the replacement parts? Does anyone know of any fix for this aside from a new panel?

Wow! This is advancement in technology, huh? I bet you'd run across the same scenario with leading-edge technology on a car too. Today's newest tech is tomorrow's (high priced) junk...

Absurd repair parts pricing is not unique to the electronics business. Automotive, appliances, just about anything you can think of share the issue. They'll charge whatever they can get away with. Once you have their product, you're more or less captive if you need parts for it.

They don't really want to bother with replacement parts, they want to sell new TV's. Aside from that, there is the difficulty of packaging and shipping a naked LCD not securely mounted in the TV chassis.

There is no fix for a broken LCD panel, and replacement parts are usually out of broken models so people can charge whatnot for it.

If you really want to, just part out your components on eBay and sell it for the same wonky prices (just lower than the purchase price of a tv).

Just don't take it anywhere and pay a " Diagnostic Fee".

Even if you found a used screen, it would not be worth the repair.

We live in a Walmart world. Sucks.
