please help me name this movie?

Ok there was a movie about 12 years ago mayby on HBO...a husband and wife were seperated.. but still good friends..they had a son about 16 who lived with the mom...the dad lived alone in a shack he was trying to fix up..it was on a cliff overlookin the ocean....the parents thought it would be a good idea for the boy to go live with the dad for the summer..dad and son didnt really get along to good at first...and i think the son even had a fling with and older nieghbor...then i think dad was told he was terminally ill so all the commmunity came together to help him fix his dream home..they did finish it...and the show ended with dad dying in the hospital and out the window you can see the house they built all lit up.....
