Here's an Olive Garden Sauce Recipe: (note the grape jelly added! ;)
Ingredients
* 1 lb ground beef
* 2 tablespoons oil
* 1 (14 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
* 1 (6 ounce) can V8 vegetable juice (I wouldn't think to add this either!)
* 1 (750 ml) jar Ragu original spaghetti sauce
* 1/2 envelope onion soup mix
* 1/4 cup grape jelly (or a little less if not looking for too much sweetness, I'd say)
* 1-2 can mushroom, drained
* 1 green pepper, finely chopped
Directions
Brown meat in oil.
Drain and run under hot water to get rid of excess fat.
Combine meat in a pot with rest of ingredients.
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat;reduce heat and simmer 20-25 minutes.

But to answer your question...I add garlic, red pepper flakes, chesses and basil.

This sauce is a little different and may sound strange but my family loves it. 1 lb. ground beef, browned with onion (optional) & drained 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1 can tomato soup 1 small (8 oz. I think) can of tomato sauce Stir the soups & sauce into the ground beef. Then I add the following spices. I don't measure so just do it to taste. Chili powder, oregano, basil, parsley, salt, pepper, a dash of ground red pepper. Heat through. Serve on cooked spaghetti. Four of us ate this the other night and had some leftover.

I actually just wrote a post about that! http://imakefood.net/2010/04/dressing-up-spaghetti...
In that post, I added teeny cocktail shrimp and asiago cheese to some pasta sauce to dress it up a little.
Another thing I did a few days ago was heat the sauce, add some sage sausage, spinach, and fontina cheese. I haven't written that post yet, but it's coming soon.
If you want something simple, like a one ingredient fix, I'd recommend cheese. It brings a really nice creamyness and it's just plain tasty. Or if you're looking for protein, sausage is good too.

i always heat up some olive oil in a pan and add some garlic for about a min then some red pepper flakes. Then I add the sauce and some oregano and let it simmer for like 10 min. Then I add fresh basil but u can use dried as well. It always turns out great

Italian sausage, onions and mushrooms!!! You can add anything though - veggies for primavera like sauce, ground beef, onions, garlic and peppers for a meat sauce, chicken for a protein kick, or you can throw it all in and make a jambalaya sauce. My fave is the first one. Italian sausage is so flavorful, you don't need a lot to maks an impact!!

Lots of great answers already, but to throw in just a few more: red wine or balsamic vinegar, and capers. I love capers in spaghetti sauce.
I do use brown sugar in my homemade sauce because it counters the acidity of the tomato, but most store bought sauces already have tons of sugar in them.

Zucchini is commonly regarded as a veg, and in layman's parlance, of course, this much more useful; however, by stringent definition, the zucchini is a fruit, being the swollen ovary of the zucchini flower.

Let's see: ground meet, garlic, salt, pepper, bell pepper, chili pepper, tomato paste, mushroom, seasonings, cheese, etc.
