No one that I know of uses aluminum bolts to hold major engine parts together. The issue you are thinking of is with steel bolt in aluminum blocks. Its not a problem unique to Cadillacs, it can be an issue in any aluminum block. Cadillac was just one of the first to sell a lot of cars with aluminum engines and they did have some issues early on. The first aluminum Cadillac engine was the HT4100 that came out in 82 and was installed in almost every Cadillac built. I believe on those engines the head bolts are exposed in places making them more prone to corrosion. That basic engine design was used till 95. The Northstar that came out in some models around 93 is also aluminum and usually if and when you take one apart the threads come out with the bolts. They made a special repair kit to fix this issue that anyone that works on these should have and its really not a big deal. It maybe adds 1 hour to the whole rebuild project with is several hours anyway.

I never heard of anyone trying to use aluminum bolts in a steel block. Not even in kiddy toys. It just isn't strong enough to use for bolt material. Maybe you are talking about the problem some are having with the "orange" antifreeze eating up the various metals in the engine system. I think there is a lot of controversy over whether there ever was a problem and for sure whether or not a non-existent problem was fixed. You might find out more on a Cadillac forum such as www.cadillac.com
