Is a tomato classed as a fruit or vegetable?

I think I saw on the Discovery Channel that a Cucumber is a fruit where as a Banana is a vegetable ??? Please explain!

    It's a fruit. Because it has seeds. Its been often mistaken as a vegetable for some weird reason. But it's definitely a fruit.

    If it has seeds it is a fruit. A tomato is a fruit, as is a cucumber.

    its all about seeds. If it has seeds inside, its a fruit, and a tomato is a fruit.

    Fruits are the immediate supply of vitamins, proteins, and electrolytes, so over body can certainly absorb them. Found in the case of veg some of the straight eatable but some need to cooked well for enhance their taste.

    it is a fruit because it has seeds just like grapes, oranges, apples etc. but a banana is classified as a vegetable because it doesn't have seeds like salad/luttuce etc.

    tomato has seeds so it is a fruit

    cucumber has seeds so it is a fruit

    banana is has not got seeds so it is a veg
