How do you view a photo that is all blank except for a red "X" in the corner?

Usually, it is sent in an e-mail, and it's a big empty square with a red "X" in one corner (usually upper left corner)

It's unusual for images to be shown in emails as just a red x. That means that your email software doesn't recognise the file format. This could mean that the file is not a real image, but malicious software disguised as a picture.

If you don't know the person who sent it I would just delete it without trying to open it. If it is from one of your contacts, send them an email asking them to convert it to jpeg.

If you're sure that it's from a reliable source and you don't want to ask them to convert it:

Try opening it in a free picture viewer like Irfanview, XNView, etc.

If that fails look at the file name and make a note of the suffix (the 3/4 letters after the full stop).

Do a search on the internet for software that recognises the suffix, or add the suffix to this question and I'll see if I can help.
