How much does it cost to install new brake pads on a 1994 Chevy Astro Passenger Van?

I have a 1994 Chevy Astro Van and my van makes a sqeaking & slight grinding sound when I come to a stop. I assume from what my stepdad says (hes a mechanic that lives far away) that I need new brake pads and possible new rotors. My question is how much will the brake pads run me and an installation of these brake pads at any local repair shop here in Sacramento, CA? I just wanna know what real price range I am looking at here. I refuse to let them rip me off. I just want the back brake pads replaced is all. Any ideas how much?

If it is making grinding noises you should prepare for a $250 or thereabouts bill.

in the back of the seats below may well be a worn prevalent joint, i think of your van ir RWD. i could look at that first. If its in basic terms during particular gears, e.g., park, opposite, etc, its the trans. If its consistent, money is on the prevalent joint.

if rotors are turn able $100.00 bucks if not  go to autozone.com and get the price of rotors
