Excess internal scar tissue after surgery?

Does anyone know anything about this - formation of a huge amount of internal scar tissue after any kind of surgery - I think it may be a genetic quality in my family. Not anything that shows on the outside of the body, so it's not keloid. Is this a problem? Is there a name for this?

They are called adhesions. Some people just make a lot of them; I don't think there is a specific name for it.

You can also get them from infections in the abdomen. Sometimes, they can strangulate the bowel, causing bowel obstruction or ischemia/necrosis, and then you have to have more surgery to fix that.

There isn't much you can do, except avoid abdominal surgeries.
