I have a laptop with some serious problems?
I just got my laptop to turn on after a while of not having it working. I gave to a friend a while ago to fix because i was having problems with it being on. The friend put a new hard drive in it, and he uploaded windows XP onto it and took windows vista off. Now i did want windows XP on the pc because vista was too complicated. this is a wi-fi laptop but i have no connections at all and i can't recieve connections. the computer says i dont have the correct hardware. The friend said that I should be able to connect to the internet, but I can't. What should i do?

First, I would start by making sure the drivers are all properly installed for your wifi card and any other devices. Since you can't do an upgrade on from Vista to XP (Vista being newer), your friend must have done a clean install which would need all the hardware drivers to be reinstalled.
I would also check which Service Pack you're currently running. Windows XP SP1 had very poor wifi support. Your friend should have downloaded all the updates for XP; SP3, security updates, software, etc, but maybe not.
If he didn't, plug a network cable into your laptop and go to windows update to retrieve these updates.

I believe the problem you are having with your laptop has to do with the hardware drivers on your PC. Computers built for Windows Vista may have a different set of hardware drivers than on XP. So you may want to get on another computer or find an alternate way of connecting to the internet to download drivers for your computer. Go to the website of your computer's manufacturer (HP, Dell, etc.)

First your friend installed an illegal copy of Windows onto your lap top with all the wrong drivers and utilities. You need to look up the specification for your model and brand of lap top then download the correct drivers for the installed hardware devises built into the lap top from the lap top manufacturers website. Can not help more with out knowing the brand and complete model number of your lap top.
