Do you think the Arizona law on immigration is fair?
I mean it is rather arbitrary to stop someone who may look like an "illegal Mexican". How does a person do that without say stopping a third or second generation Mexican American or Chicano?
Looking a certain way isn't adequate probably cause, it seems like making feel society is racist against Latinos and insanely targeting someone who a police officer may think is Hispanic. It's like walking while being thought of as illegal Mexican. It reminds me of the movie "Born in East LA".
The law states police can stop someone if there is reasonable suspicion during a routine stop? There are no guidelines. Of course, if you are anglo, you would less likely reject this, but if you have dark hair because you're Greek, Italian, Arab, Cuban American, 3rd generation Mexican American is that reasonable suspicion? The law is vague as to what constitutes reasonable suspicion. A police department could then get sued for violating civil rights if an officer goes wrong.
Some say that only those who support illegals oppose the bill. I oppose illegal immigration and have since 1991, at least. The law says police can stop you if there is reasonable suspicion. There is no clarification of what that entails. People don't want the civil rights of legal Americans, born here to be stopped.

We need to keep OUR country safe. Like when you're in an airport and you get searched, search me and everyone else as much as needed. If it makes the plane trip safe, so be it.
We need to do whatever it takes to keep us safe. If that means stopping someone to ask for their papers, then do it

I don't know why we Americans practically trip all over ourselves, bending backwards to be so ultra fair to everyone. If you are an illegal in Mexico, you are treated rather harshly. In fact, until just a couple years ago, Guatemalans were routinely robbed and beaten up by police before being thrown back over the border. So Mexicans certainly can't complain that the U.S. is in any way less fair than their own country!
How are police supposed to do their jobs if they are so ridiculously restrained? Should Arizona instruct them to stop every one out of five people instead of targeting the ones who most probably are illegal? Just go to southern L.A. if you don't understand what I'm talking about. It is not that difficult to discern citizens from illegals. Or in the least, it is fairly easy to identify the illegals.
This has nothing to do with "racism". If a country cannot even control its own borders then it ceases to be a completely sovereign state. In effect, you are ceding parts of your own country to foreigners, simply giving up your right to ownership and legal control.
Yes, the Arizona law is fair. Very fair. Far fairer than how illegals are treated in Mexico. What would be unfair is if they actually bowed to the stupidity of political correctness and directed the police to question ever one out of five people. Do you want to needlessly be stopped just so the police can finally get to that fifth person they know is illegal? Does that make sense?

It's fair to me. I'm not an illegal. If the police stop me and ask for proof of citizenship, I'll thank them for doing their job. I have no problem with racial profiling. If I see a dark-skinned guy dressed in a flowing white robe and wearing an Arab headdress heading into the NYC subway system, your're damned right he should be stopped and given the once over.

Nobody is just stopped and asked for their "papers". That's silly, hyper-emotional nonsense, peddled by scared, dramatic libbies. All police interactions must be lawful, in accordance with standard procedure and law.
And just like all citizens and lawful residents must do, all people will be asked to identify themselves and produce evidence of a lawful address. Remember, all people must currently do this...now illegals will too. FAIR.
The only people opposed are those who support illegals right to freely walk around without fear of detainment or actual discovery.

Yet another person who refuses to read the bill. No where in the bill does it authorize stopping people for looking like a Mexican or an illegal. Show me where in the bill it says that. You cannot and neither can any one else, because it is just false.
Here is a copy. Feel free to just ignore it and continue regurgitating sensationalized media spew.

Sorry, but its very fair. ILLEGAL alien means they're breaking the law. AZ will enforce the law the feds won't.
