Why is my lacy leaf Japanese maple tree not red?
I purchased it 3 seasons ago and when I bought it the leaves were red now every season since they are green. Did I get ripped off? I paid close to 90.00 for a two ft. tree.
No, I got it in the spring and it is in the full sun.

Japanese Lace Leaf Maples (Acer Palmatum Dissectum) are available in countless hybrids. There are solid green, red, burgundy, all shades in between, as well as many with delectably variegated foliage. Some are known for the luscious shades they pass through each autumn. Some, however, emerge green in the spring and stay that way until they drop their leaves in the fall.
All nursery material should be bought from a known reputable nursery. This is never more true than when selecting an investment like a Japanese Maple. Learn as much as you can about any plant you are considering (Timber Press publishes excellent horticultural literature, including the subject of Japanese Maples). Then make your list, and read the plant tags carefully at the garden center. Even then, mismarking occurs. Talk to the nursery staff and make sure what they are selling is what you are wanting to buy.

Is it in sun? Most 'red' japanese maples only remain red when they're under the sun. ( but even then, many will still turn green )
You got it during autumn in which most maples turn red
