Why didn't they change Willy Wonka's accent on the film (new version)?

The factory is supposed to be in England and Charlie and his family have English accents and Willy's dad too, so why has Will Wonka got an American accent? I have sat through this film too many times with my daughter and get distracted in case you're wondering! lol

    mainly becasue it was done with different actors and its hard to fake an accent

    because it was not a remake it was a reinterpretation
