    Parkrose neighborhood is good. Parts of Lloyd Center District northside of the mall. Corbett which is actually a bit out aways and Laurelhurst and the Hawthorne Districts are good too. Menlo Park is another good neighborhood.

    you need to define "affordable" a little better.

    Also, if you want a more urban or suburban lifestyle.

    Probably the most popular "family" neighborhoods in the city are Grant Park, Sellwood, Hillsdale, Multnomah, Laurelhurst and maybe Brooklyn or Hollywood areas. A lot of neighborhoods run into each other and some exact borders I am not sure about. Plus, there are pockets in those favored areas that seem to have more condos, townhouses or apartments crammed into spaces where houses used to be. Generally, these neighborhoods are very good and very family friendly.

    If you go out to the burbs, there are some nice areas in almost all of the towns like Gresham, Beaverton, Troutdale, Clackamas, Oregon City, etc.

    Personally, I like Sellwood and the areas near Reed College. They are pretty expensive, though.
