How to get started acting at 16? (Read details please.)?

Hello, I would truly appreciate some honest help right now. Here goes.

I'm 16, and I feel like acting is what I was meant to do. I feel it in my heart and I just know it's what I want to do. There's nothing else that even remotely compares. I want to go all the way, I want to make it to Hollywood and be a real actress. And I am willing to do whatever it takes to get there. I fully understand that it takes alot of time and hard work and I fully accept that. It's what I want to do with my life. Now, here's where I'm stuck. Obviously the first thing that comes to mind as to "where do I start?" is joining the drama club, do school plays. That's not going to happen in this case, I am homeschooled. Now I live in a little city in Kentucky and I am just stumped as to where to start. I have no acting experience whatsoever but know I can handle it once given proper instruction and time to learn. I have tried looking for acting classes/schools (proper name/s?) but have come up empty so far. My parents are supportive of my choice to be an actress so there is no problem with that. I have checked into one school in Louisville but that was not hopeful as we live quite far from there. So do I keep looking for another one closer by or what options do I have? If anyone can help, it would be great if you knew of a good place in Lexington or nearby. I am 100% serious about this and I have procrastinated for too long and now I am ready to start my journey in my chosen career. From the bottom up. Please take the time to help me. I know this is what I am meant to do. It is my dream and I intend to follow it. I just need to be pointed in the right direction. My dream is to become a good, true actress and to use my profits to help the world in a positive way. Particularly I am interested in helping non-human animals but would love to aid with humans as well. Again, I know from the bottom of my heart to the deepest corner of my soul that this is what I am meant to do. This is it. Nothing more, nothing less. And I know that sounds so far out there, and it is, but I mean every word of it. Additionally I will note that I am shy and have trouble making friends. In fact I have no friends and I never have. I get nervous around people and I know it will be hard at first in acting but I believe acting and being around other people will aid in my shyness and help to overcome it. Which is what I know I have to do. Please give me any advice and help you can. I will truly appreciate it and take it to heart. If you want/need to ask me anything I will gladly edit this post and respond to any questions you have. Thank you.

Update:

I apologize for the long post but I feel it was needed.

Just about everyone you see on TV and in movies started out working in community theater, since it's the only place an aspiring actor can learn while gaining the experience required to access other opportunities. If you contact a local theater and enroll in classes, you'll become a familiar face with the theater regulars. And even if a particular theater doesn't have classes scheduled at the moment, someone there will be happy to recommend a teacher or program to get you started.

If you take classes and show that you're talented and committed to learning and mastering the craft of acting, you'll be considered for roles in upcoming productions. Once you've appeared in a few of those, you'll have the experience required to shop for an agent who may be able to find you other work. Most stage actors also work in commercials, TV and movies, so your theater peers will be able to recommend legitimate agents when you're ready to take that step.

There are tons of high-profile actors who are shy in real life. As long as you're willing to shed your own personality and completely inhabit the characters you portray, your shyness shouldn't be an impediment to pursuing an acting career. After all, it's the character on stage, not you. The same goes for movie and TV roles. It's a matter of freeing yourself enough to become immersed in the roles. That's why some of the nicest people in the world have been completely convincing portraying murderers and terrorists and some people who are arrogant jerks can convince us they're complete gentlemen. They become the characters.

School acting programs are great experiences, but not essential to pursuing an acting career. Agents require potential clients to have professional experience outside of school, so you'd still need community theater experience to access other opportunities. There's no reason you can't get all the experience you need despite being home-schooled. Here are some links to Lexington community theaters that should help you:

your doing the right thing by searching for a drama group, but it would be easier if you didnt just search 'drama' groups, search for acting classes / groups, and musical theatre classes too. musical theatre might not be where you want to go, but you would have drama classes and just think of the sinding and dancing as extra skills. also musical theatre classes are a lot more common and there will probably be a lot of choice for you, it will give you a lot of oppetunites and new experiences as you'll be taking part in shows and performances. if you find a musical theatre group and join you could also speak to whoever teaches drama there, about having private acting classes. most groups are very helpful with things like this. also look at some online agencies that are genuine, and just gain some extra experience by applying for some extra jobs or student films. start small, you cant just walk straight onto a hollywood set, everything you do has to start somwhere. also if you get homeschooled why not add drama into your schooling schedule? ask your mum or tutor to spend maybe a a couple of hours a week or 30 mins a day practicing acting, do some acting games like improvisiaion. you could ask your mum to give you a character to play, try different ages and eras where the characters would live. then get your mum to ask as many questions as you can and answer the question by improvising in the character. you could also look up monolouges learn some and perform them to your mum and dad and ask for feedback of where you could improve and then show them an improved version of the monolouge the next day or somthing, another good thing to do is also to video yourself performing monolouges and see for yourself where to improve, or post some on youtube and ask for some useful feedback, or even do that on here! and then just start building up your career, dont try and rush, just add to your experience and maybe in a year or two look into agencies and go from there. hope this helps x

dont get in with a website, most of them are a scams, you love the stage? thats not enough, you need to have the emotion, the feeling, the love and dedication and time and money and faily support. its good your starting young, but you need every ounce of work you can get! you need to not say no, never refuse an offer, and gain life experences, because once your famous you can never be left alone.

your right on one thing, it is hard work, SO HARD!, you need to find.. (depending on what sort of acting) a club or afterschool lessons in your area, screen acting (film/tv) or stage (theatre)

you need to find an agent, they dont cost money (if they ask its a scam) no, agents make their money off you, how ever much you make, they take a little bit from your salary.

OR- you could ring up a talant Agency not an agent, and you nee these things.

1- experence, you wont get anywere without it.

2- a head shot of you... your head

3- a resume of how you look verbaly, like blonde hair blue eyes, height ect, experence with acting, life expeences,

4- find any open auditions for acting at

    these sites are not scams

One thing I would start with is finding a local theater group to perform with. Then see if possibly you could arrange with some of their veterans to help teach you audition techniques and different ways to improve yourself. Most of the time is you google your home town and the word theater than you should find a group, thats how I got started.
