Why does Robert Smith of The Cure hate Morrissey?

Morrissey was asked a question about famous people named Smith, which one would he shoot? It was Patti Smith, Robert Smith, and someone else. Morrissey's reply was, "I’d line them all up and I’d shoot them all".

I doubt he really cares much either way, it seems that Morrissey just likes pissing people off since he is always talking sh1t about somebody. I find it quite amusing.

I expect he's quite supportive of what we do, but I've never liked The Cure... not even "The Caterpillar".

This is what Robert said, "If Morrissey says note to eat meat, then I'll eat meat, that's how much I hate Morrissey."

Does anyone know the story behind this? Apparently Morrissey made an uncalled for remark about Robert Smith in the Turkce press.

As far i'm led to believe Robert Smith took a dislike to Morrissey due to Moz slating him and his band in the press. Morrissey went as far as calling him a "fat clown". Robert Smith responded by saying he was off to eat some meat! Morrissey 1 Robert Smith 0.

I think Moz was a tad jealous of the success The Cure had stateside.

I'm not too sure if there is still the same level of hatred between both camps, but its worth remembering that Moz didn't really like anybody during his years with The Smiths and hasn't really mellowed that much with age. IMO, The Smiths are far more important than The Cure.Both culturally and musically. The fact that 20+yrs since The Smiths ended and Moz can still sell out whole tours in 15 mins speaks for itself. The Cure meanwhile, are just a shadow of their former selves. They are no longer relevant.

This is hard to debate, I like both. In a stranded island I would rather be with Robert Smith though.
