Because the term Catholic was not used until about 107 CE.

According to the four Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles, about the year 33 C.E., the structure of the Church was set up by Jesus Christ before His Ascension and then the early Christian Church was born on Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and disciples.

This same Church has referred to itself as the “Catholic Church” at least since 107 C.E. (about 10 years after the last book of the New Testament was written), when the Greek term "Katholikos" (meaning universal) appears in the Letter of St. Ignatius of Antioch to the Smyrnaeans:

"Wherever the bishop appear, there let the multitude be; even as wherever Christ Jesus is, there is the Catholic Church."

We do not know how long they had been using the term "Catholic" before it was included in this rare surviving letter.

All of this was long before the Council of Nicea and the Nicene Creed from 325 C.E. which states, "We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church."

Because there was ever only one Christian Church and that is the catholic Church. As it happens the term Catholic comes from the 2nd Century Bishop of the Christian church of Antioch. However when he uses it sounds like it was already a common term at his time.

Because there was no other Christian Church but Catholic assuming you are speaking of the Bible epistles. We know that the Church was called Catholic because St. Ignatius who was the third bishop of Antioch used the name Catholic in defining the Church as those who gathered around the Bishop in His letter to the Smyrnaeans while on his way to Rome to be martyred. He said that where the bishop is there is the Church. God bless!

THANK YOU! There are so many differences in religion, and some people think that since one person beleives something different than their beleifs, they have the right to bash them and tell them that they are going down to heck (tee hee). People who encourage myths about other religions (i've noticed that A TON with Mormons) are kinda being hypocritical. Almost all religions that I know of encourage being nice to others, whether it's Christian, Islam, Hindu, or a bajillion others. People within those sects misunderstand their own beleifs or something and do something different. I've never had a problem with any other beleifs at all. If i have a problem with a Muslim, I blame the person, not the religion. yet others fall away from religions when there's problems with a person. That's where we get hateful myths about mormons, JWs, and catholics (actually, I didn't think catholics had that much hatred to them) and how they aren't christian and stuff. THere have been a lot of good points in the answers i've seen. anyway, rant over.
