How would I go about finding a relatively rare car for restoration?

I'm interested in doing restoration work on a mid-80's Buick Skyhawk T-type. Not a lot of these cars were made, and the ones that were made weren't treated very well. There aren't many on the road anymore and a lot of the owners that still have them are hesitant to give them up.

I guess what I'm asking is what I should do to try and find one (and parts.) I've tried the usual, like eBay Motors and other used car search sites but I come up pretty empty-handed. I haven't come across any dealers or used car lots that have them sitting around. I was wondering if anyone knew of a resource I could use to try and find some.

Thanks!

Update:

manuawal: I agree, they do. My uncle owned a Datsun and kept it in pretty good shape. Unfortunately that doesn't really tell me how to _find_ the car.

Update 2:

pearl j: I'm sure this is the car I want to work on. Part of the interest is the challenge of making it work. The Skyhawk doesn't look like much but it's a pretty cool little car. That site you linked to didn't help much though, it seems pretty incomplete.

Searching for a low production car isn't easy but the best way to do it is through Car clubs, swap meets and publications that specialize in antique and vintage cars.

    I'd check Hemmings Motor News

I'd look into every Buick Club you can locate.

I would check high profile swap meets like Carlisle or the auction houses like R&M.

The Skyhawk wasn't a particularly good car, that's why they didn't sell many of them. It was based off the Chevy Vega, one of GMs worst cars ever. Later versions were a rebadged Chevy Cavalier a car not much better than the Vega.

If you really want to find the rarest of them look for the Pace Car version or a 2.o ltr turbocharged model. If there are any survivors at all they will probably be one of these rarer models.

Go with a Datsun 280 ZX. When they are restored, they look sick.
