How many people can you feed if you have an acre of land?

There are way, way too many variables to give anything close to an exact answer to that. What kind of foodstuffs... chickens/eggs, wheat, vegetables, fruit? What kind of livestock & how much area will they need to graze, etc. Is this in an area where you'll be able to have more than one crop harvest in a year?
