I'm desperate for a free, basic video editor that works. I have tried MM and Wax and neither work at all?

I want something basic and simple. All I want to do is split, stitch and add jpegs/titles.

Update:

Yeah, it's perfect for what I want to do, but I have the same issue virtually everyone does. It doesn't render the movie. The same nondescript error message always comes out. I have tried each and every proposed solution I've found on the web and many of my own design, all to no avail.

Update 2:

No offence, but...

1. I think that after 30 years in software support, checking software levels is something I wouldn't overlook.

2. As I said, I eliminated over a dozen possible solutions posted on the web, including those suggested by Microsoft.

3. It became clear that many other MM users also experience unresolvable issues and have given up on the product.

4. I wasted the better part of a day trying to make MM work. I'm not interested in wasting any more time on it. While its user interface is very easy to use, it's internal design sucks.

5. Wax was very much the same. I encountered a problem with even previewing ANY video--a problem I discovered that other would-be users also have and for which I found no remedy.

Please pardon my frustration. In most of my thirty years I worked with many terrific software products and systems and while many of today's products do truly amazing things, there is so much garbage software that it gives software in general a bad name.

Windows movie maker is free and simple.Instead of looking for alternatives state the issue you have with WMM to fix it.

What is your operating system and what version of MM you have?
