What kind of book plots do teenagers like?

(Aside from Vampires, high school romances and magical powers. I am trying to write a book and I want it to appeal to teens. But teens today are far more intelligent, are more technologically advanced and more easily bored with such simple things such as reading. So, a dynamic plot would be important. What to you would keep a book an interesting "page turner" until you reached the end?)

I like cliffhangers at the end of my chapters. I find real life situations interesting too. Such as drug problems, family problems...etc. Teenagers like something they can be able to relate to and sometimes you have to go to the darker side of life to find that light you've been searching for.

original and creative. it doesn't HAVE to be all romance, but honestly most books aren't interesting at all without a hint of romance.

    oh, also make it funny!!!

    historical fiction is out.

mystery is all good, but there are certain mysteries that are more appealing: usually ones we understand. for example, we agree most teens dont know everything about the stock market, so dont involve that in your books.

I like things about worlds far from our own: Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Twilight, Uglies, Percy Jackson, Warriors, get it?? about magic and special powers and daydreams. that sort of thing.

another type of book i like is just the opposite. about a teenager (so we can relate) who finds herself. you know, shy kid overcomes fears type of thing. If I Stay, Elsewhere, Peeled, Hope was Here, Schooled, the Schwa was Here, Just Listen, etc....

id go with a magical world or a realistic book, and add a bit of romance. gl!

A story which makes the reader laugh, cry, and remain-on-the-edge in. Knowing famous manga, a tsundere-type girl and that guy-which-doesn't-seem-to-see-the-signs-of-the-tsundere-girl-loving-him paired together is something Americans usually don't see. A plot that slowly seeps into the reader is great, and it'd be entertaining if it were complex.

  • an interesting, unique idea would be a page turner.

And coming up with that idea...well, that's the writer's job.

-I find fascination in sci-fi books, having to do with future technology and 'space travel'.

-I also like books that have characters whom are not idiotic teenagers who make me want to scream. *cough* Bella! *cough*.

-Also, I find myself being drawn to books that have characters with diseases or issues. They interest me quite fully.

    Good luck!

Characters. If you have well written characters, i will pretty much read whatever you decide to throw at me.
