S.Bay Students Wearing U.S. Flag Shirts Sent Home? Your thoughts?

The school was clearly wrong.

The school was wrong!

Were the boys forming picket lines or protesting? Were they yelling insults to the students celebrating Cinco de mayo ? Were they doing anything other than saying..."Okay..you wanna celebrate Cinco de mayo, go ahead. But I'm showing my pride in America today too."

The students attending school in United States....celebrating Cinco de mayo (A holiday generally unrecognized in Mexico but celebrated here for showing pride in mexican ancestry or due to a misunderstanding about the mexican independance day ) were offended by the American Flag T-shirts because "this was their day." Hummm....something wrong with that.

Swim shorts and bandanas aren't appropriate normal wear in school. So they should have had to change that.

But, as for the T-shirts. This is America for pete sake! If you get in trouble any day for just wearing an American T-shirt then something has seriously gone wrong!

Political Correctness has gotten so outta hand.

This is the United States of America, not mexico. Bottom Line- Fire the Principle and Vice Principle. If the students can't respect an American Flag every day of the year then perhaps they ought to stop cinco de mayo celebrations there as well if they cause that kind of unrest. Again this is the United States and Yes even California, lol

The report (I believe) did not say whether the boys wore the red, white and blue on any given day. Why on Cinco de Mayo? I think the school over reacted but the boys were looking for attention and most certainly got it.

Unless there is a dress code in place I think the school is wrong. Bandanna was out of code so it should have been taken off.

Cinco de Mayo is a great holiday and it is celebrated in USA- what's the problem?

I think they could have used this as a starting point for great discussion and coming together.

I know the school was wrong. I believe they need to get a back ground check on the ones that sent them home. Who's to say, they may be sleeper cells from an insane crazy house. This is America not Russia.

I think the idiot that sent them home forgot he was indeed in America. How are our colors or flag inflammatory? The students that complained were also idiotic. They don't see the irony, they are in a country that allows them freedom to celebrate their heritage and they are trying to squash someone else's freedom at the same time.

This is so messed up. nobody would have been sent home if it was the 4th of July and they were wearing a red green and white shirt! What a joke!

I think there's more to the story than what they're telling us. It sounds really ridiculous to send kids home because they are wearing their countries flag. Too ridiculous.

I think the most they should have done would have been to tell the one boy to take his headband off.

And they can send the other home for wearing swim wear.

But just for tshirts?!

Give me a break.
