US National Day of Prayer?

Formalized in 1952, with a congressional resolution calling on the president to proclaim such a day, there were national days of prayer long before then.

Who have you prayed for today?

Your question implies that on the National Day of Prayer everyone got together and prayed for a whole day. You KNOW this is not true. No one is required to pray on the National Day of Prayer. And, you know that quite well. An equally optional National Day of No Prayer would probably result in much the same types of activity that occur every day. People do not pray or not pray because of a declared day. The declaration is a reminder, not a requirement. The National Day of No Prayer would probably remind people who pray that prayer is even more needed. So, your attempt to "balance" things would be useless. This is another example of being unable to distinguish between two things that are equal and two things being the same... .

Rather than wasting your time praying, why don't put your time to good use and actually DO something for someone?

Two hands working will accomplish FAR MORE than a thousand hands praying.

Those things were created out of fear of the spread of communism. They should have ended them a long time ago.

Nobody. I'm an atheist, and further I believe that the federal government's declaration of a national day of prayer is a violation of the separation of church and state doctrine (i.e. is unconstitutional).

I don't pray, so I haven't prayed for anyone today.

Let's hope the current administration is brave enough to rescind this idiotic holiday.

Prayer is a call to a phone that doesn't exist.
