- Anonymous1 decade agoNames starting with H aren't exactly common in German, though I know a few guys named Hendrik, Henning, Holger which are considered as neither very spectacular, nor very embarrassing. Common names, though old fashioned are (most guys with that name are around 60 years old): Hartmut, Heinrich, Horst, Hans, Hajo (an abbreviation of the double-name Hans-Joachim). "Horst" is also used as a swearword for someone who is rather stupid and slow in understanding. Source(s): Native German
- 1 decade agoHow old is he? Hans is very old fashion, sounds odd for a younger guy, sounds like a grandfather. Better take Hannes instead. Or Holger, or Harald, etc. Those are rather ageless at the moment IMHO. And sound a bit boring ;-) Here's a list of the most frequent names by year: (scroll down) Source(s): am german
