When did the All-NBA format change?

It used to be the best player at each position - top C, top PF, top SF, top SG and top PG. I think its part of the NBA marketing arm that loves to highlight stats and accolades way too much. This year you have 1 center and 4 guys who alternate betweent the SF/SG position.

C - Howard

PF - Dirk or Amare

SF - Durant

SG - James

PG - Williams

Update:

- Prince you must be pretty young. Maybe for the past 5-8 yrs its been like this, but it used to be all five positions recognized, not just "guards" "forwards" as blanket terms. I'm pretty sure that Barkley and Malone never were on at the same time.

Nope, it's been the same ever since. Just like the all star game voting 2 guards, 2 forwards and a center.
