If you're one of those "Blame America" types, which nation would you prefer as the world's leading power?
Historically, there has always been one nation which has been, for lack of a better term, the Big Kid on the Block. Whether or not you like that fact, a fact it remains. There is ALWAYS one preeminent power, although obviously sometimes that title is up for grabs. During the 19th century, it was Britain. Before the Brits came the Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch, and before all of them came the Romans.
If you are one of those people who believes the US to be terrible, rotten, hypocritical, etc...which nation would you prefer to see fill the role?
If you're going to answer, please be realistic. I have absolutely no problem with our Canadian, Aussie, Kiwi, etc...friends, but the fact of the matter is that a nation of 30 million will never be the world's leading power.
derek: We elected Reagan because we knew he'd turn out to be exactly what he was: the greatest President of the Twentieth Century. The fact that he also turned out to be the victor of the cold War was a bonus.
ben: You mean Eurabia? No thank you.
lost: Yes, we policed the world following WWII. Did you forget about the Truman Doctrine, Containment, and the Cold War?
As far as Vietnam is concerned, US forces never lost one single, solitary battle. The war was not lost, but rather given away by American leftists.
yut: Yes, there is. It's usually a slow process. The US didn't supplant the Brits one Tuesday morning.
lost: We did not lose the war militarily. We pulled out because leftists are spineless and didn't have the fortitude to continue.
I'd be willing to bet a cup of coffee you have no more idea of the definition of "neoconservative" than the man in the moon.
ben: It's not xenophobia, it's pragmatism. When Muslims comprise a large enough minority, as they do in Germany and France, and increasingly in Britain, they don't demand equal treatment. They demand special treatment, such as the imposition of Sharia.

I prefer America above all others to be the leading power, but it would be ok if it was the European Union, as well. I have a problem with the "Blame America First" label that seems to get stuck on anyone that loves his country enough to question policies that he disagrees with. If you think that your country is hurting itself by engaging in a destructive policy, I feel that it is your duty in a democracy to speak out about it. If you follow the "My country right or wrong" policy, then you will not be of assistance in the case where it is going in the wrong direction, such as was faced by the German citizens prior to WWII.

Because it's something our founders never intended for this nation.
America was intended to be a strong independent nation which values sovereignty.
We proved we were strong when we defeated the most powerful nation on Earth, Great Britain. Did we police the world? No.
We proved we were strong when our nation overcame a potentially deadly, and destructive civil war. Did we flex our muscles and police the world? No.
We proved we were independent and strong when the Axis attacked our country - and even with a crippled economy we overcome the odds again. Did we flex our muscles after and police the world? No.
When we flexed our muscles and might in Vietnam we lost 60,000 troops, entered a recession, and came home in defeat.
When we started policing the Middle East in the 70s-present we only rallied up Anti-American movements, terrorism, and attacks on US soil. And the war on terror started the recession we see today.
Attrition of War is destroying the global economy from the outside in.
Source(s): If Vietnam was not lost than why did Communism spread all over Asia? You are such a typical Neoconservative goon. - BenLv 41 decade ago
I'd rather the EU, tbh.
Lol, "Eurabia"? Someone's got a case of xenophobia.
I know from experience that the Germans, French, and English do not want their countries taken over by Muslims. If you want proof, just remember the burqa ban that France and other European communities imposed, or the ban on Islamic spinnerets(sp?). Europe is not as tolerant towards Muslims as the US. Anti-Islam violence is growing rapidly, while the threat of a terror attack is only increasing in the US.
Pragmatically, of course.

During those times when the title is up for grabs, then there's *not* one pre-eminent power, right?
Anyhow, I'm with Ben. The EU for me.

If you Conservatives loved America so much, why would you elected individuals like Bush & Reagan.

I think that America is wonderful, but is capable of being even more wonderful.
Why does that piss you off?

And each one of them fell thanks to hubris. When will that happen to the US?
