camping for three days, question about cooking meat?
ok so would it be better to cook the meat at home freeze it and then heat it up over the fire.. or just freeze it, thaw it and then cook it at the campsite?
also what are some ideas for food besides the obvious hot dogs burgers and smores??

Cooking and freezing is actually a good idea because of less cooking time needed, and longer storage time. Cook it, put it in those airtight sealed bags and freeze it. put it in the bottom of ice chest and the meat should last 3 to 4 days no problem. You can do that with all your meats for the longer term meals. For the first meal just freezing fresh and cooking the same day is fine I will buy carne asada and freeze that, pack it in the chest and cook that the first night with enough left over for carne asade and eggs for breakfast the next morning.

I prefer to freeze it raw and cook it at the campsite. It tastes a lot better that way. Just like when you can tell if the meat was cooked and frozen in a restaurant. Steaks work well on a grill. Freeze it at home it can easily last a day without ice. In fact it`ll be perfectly thawed out by the time you hike to the camp site

Unless you want the experience and odors of meat cooking on a fire, cook and freeze it all beforehand and wrap in heavy duty foil. A one pound New York steak takes about five minutes to heat up in a frying pan, still wrapped in foil, no mess. I take steak for one night, chicken breasts for another, pork chops a night, hamburger patties, also make up a burrito mix that works the same way. Using the prepare ahead of time method you can take anything for dinner. I've have had a full Chinese dinner many miles from any road, sweet and sour chicken, broccoli beef, prawns, shrimp fried rice, dinner for six, no waiting. Took about 10 minutes to heat and serve over a campfire.
Bottom line is you are only limited by your own imagination, be creative, be prepared and enjoy!

We take meat with us and just keep it in an ice chest. We usually take burgers, hot dogs, chicken, and pork chops. We place the meat at the bottom of the ice chest and have never had any problems.
For ideas:
Sandwiches (meat and cheese, tunafish, as well as pb n j)
Cereal
Baked beans or pork and beans
we make rice from those Rice a Roni boxes.
Hash browns
Fruit
Vegetables
Oatmeal
Toast
eggs
Pastries

Take a beef roast and cut thin chunks and cook on a stick over the fire, wrap up what you dont eat the first day and have some tomarrow.....one thing about beef if you can get it raw passed your nose..it's still edible !

For me the dry food is the best. You can have meat, fruits and veggies. It will not spoil and it is not heavy. Don't forget to bring some water too :)
