Realistically, Lakers vs Suns? What do you think?

Techinically the Suns have owned the Lakers since 2004. Nash' Suns have kicked out the Lakers when they meet in the playoffs, twice that happened.

Obviously, I'm on the Suns' side here.

How do the Lakers usually win? Kobe Bryant and their Frontcourt

Grant Hill/Jared Dudley will try to contain Kobe. The Suns DO NOT lack height. Robin Lopez is 7'0 who is known for his defense and fits the Suns' offense perfectly will be back. He will be able to guard Gasol one on one. Channing Frye is almost 7'0. Amar'e Stoudemire is 6'10. The MVP of the Lakers is actually their frontcourt. This is what carries the Lakers.

How do the Suns usually win?

What makes the Suns so good is that they can win in a lot of ways. They can win by Steve Nash scoring and putting up 30 and 10. They can win by a Nash-Stoudemire dominance. They can win by Channing Frye and Jared Dudley heating up. They can win by Nash controlling the tempo and have balanced scoring. They can win by Jason Richardson scoring a boatload of points. They can even win by Goran Dragic. But of course, they cannot win by that alone but rather by teamwork. I'm just stressing the biggest factor.

Probably the biggest factor of the Suns winning against the Lakers is their defense and containing the front court of the Lakers. We know Kobe is gonna get 30. The Suns have actually improved a lot on Defense but if they are to win this series they need to be consistent. On offense, the Suns need to control the tempo.

The Suns are going to have to play the good defense they have been to beat them. The Suns are at a huge disadvantage size wise, not in height but in size and rebounders. They will have to focus on hustling for loose balls and rebounding. The Lakers absolutely kill teams with rebounding.

On offense the Suns just need to execute the way they have been against San Antonio. With Gasol, Bynum and Odom all usually in the paint it's great that the Suns play a perimeter and fast paced offense. I'm hoping that it will draw Bynum and Gasol out of the paint once in a while to guard guys like Channing Frye and Jared Dudley. If the Suns continue to hit threes, they'll have to guard them sooner or later. Also, Steve Nash and Amare need to keep using that pick and roll they've been running so well, make the Lakers have to move. The Suns actually may have an advantage offensively because they have so many guys who can shoot, if guys are hitting their shots it's going to put a lot of pressure on the Lakers to get back.

The key thing to me though above all, is resiliency. The Suns cannot get shaken up, fall apart or abandon what they've been doing all year. They cannot lose confidence, because if that happens they're done. All they need to do is keep doing what they have been and the Lakers will have to adjust to them. I think that if they play their style of basketball and add their defense to the mix the Suns have a chance. As you said, they need to control the tempo of the game. Make the Lakers play their brand of basketball, not the other way around.

I'd like to give the Suns the edge here if they stay resilient and play their game, no matter what happens this series is likely to go 7 games.

The Phoenix bench bench production and J Rich scoring 20+ is the one constant Phoenix needs to have a chance. They've been getting both consistently and Alvin Gentry is keeping this team well-motivated as well.

I originally picked the Suns to be in the Finals at the beginning of the playoffs (I was criticized just for picking the Suns to be in the WCF alone) but now I'm not so sure. I'll just say that the Suns won't be a "cakewalk" like most people think they are. The Suns have a legitmate shot at beating the Lakers in a 7 game series if they at least do the above 2 things.

You should of know since 2004 to 2007 was the Lakers Rebuilding Phase. Lakers is now championship if you take out all the injuries.

Suns do have height, but Lopez is injured and Frye can't handle Pau's long arms.

In the season, Lakers v Suns is 3 to 1. It is a tough task for the Suns.

Steve Nash has been to the conference finals 3 times this being his 4th, once with Dallas, twice with suns, hes won two mvp's, hes the only MVP winner to not reach the finals, Kobe, he has 4 rings, Phil has 10, he does not need 1 more, Nash is getting old but is playing well, how long is that gonna last? i don't know, but what i do know is that the suns need this for phoenix and for themselves they have worked hard all year and all through the playoffs.

Sure lakers have 3 big/good 7 footers so?? only one of them is actually good past the arc, lamar odom. the suns can just keep using there pick and roll and drag the lakers out to the 3 because channing Frye can shoot 3's and pau is gonna be guarding him. ALSO robin lopez is forsure coming back for the 3rd round so that he can help in the post to guard pau and odom.

Lou admounson is 6-9 so what? big deal 3 inch difference compared to odom and pau and bynum.

richardson is probably gonna guard kobe he has a good 20 pounds of muscle on kobe and he can shoot everywhere kobe can.

    nash easilllyyy can guard fisher!!

    Lakers starting line up suns

    fisher-----------------------------------------------------------------------nash-backup-dragic

    kobe------------------------------------------------------------------------richardson-backup- barbosa or dudley?

    artest-----------------------------------------------------------------------hill-backup- backup-dudley

    bynum---------------------------------------------------------------------- stat!-backup-lou

    pau---------------------------------------------------------------------------lopez? or frye?- backup- collions?

Good question. Both teams have dominated their series in the first and second round and have identical playoff records at 6-2. There is a lot of bad blood with these teams and I can't wait for the series to start.

I don't think anyone at the beginning of the season was saying that "this is the Suns year"; however, something happened after they took care of business down the tail end of the season with big wins against Utah and Denver. Ever since then this team has been very formidable.

The Lakers have been consistent all season, but they do not seem to have the same desire as their couterpart searching for their first ever championship.

Close series, but I think Phoenix squeaks a win out in Los Angeles in game 1 or 2 making the difference in the series.

    Suns in 7.

I'm really glad we are gonna face the Suns. They beat us twice in the 1st round. Kobe didn't have anyone back then, he was putting up 30+ every night and the Lakers almost beat the Suns the first time. But this is different, Kobe actually has a supporting cast now and obviously is still capable of putting up 30+ every night. No one can guard Kobe on the Suns, he'll destroy the Suns just like he's destroying the Jazz right now.

    Kobe vs Jazz: 3-0

    32 ppg, 6.3 apg

    51.5 % FG, 40% 3PT, 88% FT

Ok let's be real for a minute...I'm a lakers fan but suns have a good chance of winning some games at LA because of their outside shooting since one of their big guy is a good outside shooter BUT suns can't just rely on their shooting to win games, lakers are gonna adjust and force the ball out of Nash's hands and probably force them to go post , their weakness and lakers dominate in the post . now if the suns want to win this series, their gonna have to guard gasol and bynum in the post , which again is a weakness for the suns. Kobe is gonna off obviously , but don't be surprised if the lakers pound the ball down in the post to bynum and gasol to start early and fast. when the suns are running they're unstoppable but I think if fisher can play defense on Nash like he did on Deron Williams in game 4 then lakers can take it. LAKERS IN 5 or 6

The Suns will have a HARD time beating the Lakers. Lakers are now a championship team, and now Kobe actually has a great crew to back him up. Lakers definitely have a size advantage with Odom, Gasol, and Bynum and each of these guys can easily average a double-double. Additionally, they have Artest who will play lock-down D and of course, Kobe. In the end, LAKERS in 5 or 6.

You can't just say "the Suns have height so they matchup"...the issue is, and always is...Amare Stoudemire. Against the Spurs you don't use him to guard Duncan, you hide his defense. He may guard Duncan in the 4th but by then has 3 fouls or less so its not a big deal. Against the Lakers, he has to guard Gasol, Bynum, or Odom the entire game...he can't hide from not defending a good offensive player, and he struggles playing defense without fouling. Odom and Gasol can guard Frye (see Lewis, Rashard, 2009 NBA Finals) AND no one is mentioning the Lakers have homecourt, so I say Lakers in 6.
