Is it just the chase format?
I did some research, and Jeff Gordon would have 7 championships if the chase format (A.K.A. the NEXTEL/Sprint Cup format) had never been put into place. This would match him in championships with Earnhardt and Petty..... So, is it fair that Jeff isn't compared the way he should be to them??
B.T.W.- Johnson would only have 2 championships. What do you think about that?

Yes. Jeff Gordon has to be looked at differently than Dale Sr. and Petty because Gordon raced in an era when there were multiple major rule changes. If they all raced under the same format, Gordon would either have 6 or 7 titles.

Actually Jeff would have won the Championship 6 times (his actual 1995, 1997, 1998 & 2001 Championships & the 2004 & 2007 Championships (since the Chase format started)).
Well the calculation of the 'what would have been' Classic points is somewhat wrong only because of the situation would have the drivers & strategies play out differently.

i wager i might want to be the atypical individual out right here and admit that I do exactly like the Chase. i'd be the really one right here, yet i do not desire to work out ANY motive force, no longer even my famous, run away with the criteria lead and characteristic the Championship locked down with a number of weeks left to bypass. The Chase resources a aspect of drama and suspense to the spectacular few weeks of a season, besides as making those first 26 races a lot extra significant. how are you going to say that all they are doing is factors-racing? What do you imagine they did in the previous? Wins have continually been significant to drivers, yet those factors are a lot extra significant to the communities contained in the destiny. imagine again to Kahne in 2006. He led all drivers with 6 wins, yet develop into by no potential a contender for the identify through a lack of consistency. it truly is genuine that The Chase has screwed some drivers contained in the previous (nicely, actual basically one motive force two times), even though it extremely is the prospect you're taking. It makes the communities could paintings that a lot extra sturdy at the same time as it counts on the properly, such as playoffs and championship video games in different events. edit zalex makes an excellent aspect also.

No.. It's fair to say that Jeff MIGHT have five, or six.. Jimmie, and Chad have been able to budget money, and equipment to suit the format.. They may have had it figured it out the old way as well.. I do think this would have been much harder to do though.. If it makes you feel any better, don't think of Jimmie as a four time Champion though.. I think of him as a four time Chase winner.. Also, I don't watch many of The Chase races because I won't sit there while the announcers forget there is a race going on, and keep reciting the points standings, lap after lap.. It's more than annoying, and distracts from the race.. Who gives a rats behind what the standings are twenty laps into a race.. I promise you they will change..

1. That's a pretty cool point Know-it-all. How were the points systems different? Did they differ in points value/how much awarded?
2. And no, Jeff Gordon would only have six championships: 2004 and 2007, if they weren't run under the Chase system, were the only two that would have gone to Gordon. Stewart would have still won it in 2005, and Edwards would have been the champion in 2008. Johnson would still have both 2006 and 2009.

He 'may' have yes. However, people forget what Richard Petty said once. He said he raced through 7 different point's format's in his career and the Chase is just another one.

f they only played 4 innings in baseball instead of 9 the yankees probably wouldn't have won as many world series as they have. but guess what? they DO play 9 innings, and the chase format does exist. and BTW, richard petty won his 7 championships under 3 different points systems. that's what great drivers like petty and earnhardt do, they win under any circumstance. their fans don't need to whine and cry and make excuses as to why he hasn't won as many championships as the other drivers like gordon's fans do.

this has been asked for the 100th time. it doesn't matter what someone would have got under a different format, everybody had to race using the same format so how is it not fair? i don't really agree with the chase because i like how the overall points system is, i just think they should do the same points all season so basically keep the same points system just do away with the Chase. but my point is that they all had to use the same format, they all had to adjust to it at the same time so to me it's fair since they all had to use it.
