Unicode problem with music notation?
I learned the QUARTER note in music can be shown in Microsoft Word by typing 2669 and then Alt with x together. I also learned:
266F Alt + X =MUSIC SHARP SIGN
266D Alt + X =MUSIC FLAT SIGN
266E Alt + X =MUSIC NATURAL SIGN
These 266F and 2669 are called hex. Since I need to use more music notation in Microsoft Word, I google some charts to see what hex codes I can use to produce the musical notation I want. Most likely it was my ignorance or lack of knowledge of using it, but I don't fine the unicode system is "consistent"
I was trying to find musical notations for a QUARTER REST and HALF REST on the charts. Some charts have both Hexdecimal and Hex. 1D13D is the HEX for a QUARTER REST, while 11911 (don't remember exactly the number but only the format) is the Hexdecimal. I searched many pages of how to use unicode online, even from Microsoft. The instruction from all of them says "type the hex and then Alt with X together." However, when I typed the hex 1D13D then Alt with X, it gave me somethings else. I also tried the hexdecimal code with Alt and X afterwards, it did not work.
How can I make Quarter REST, HALF REST, WHOLE REST, HALF NOTE, and WHOLE NOTE in MICROSOFT WORD.....?
Thanks

The few Unicode musical symbols below U+FFFF are described by the Unicode consortium as dingbats. That is, they are mainly for use as text ornaments or as text symbols within letter text documents.
A supposedly complete set of symbols for western music is found in Unicode Plane 1 at http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U1D100.pdf11 , from U+01D100 to U+01D1DD. This complete set contains duplicates of the small number of symbols used in plane 0. This set is intended for use by music-writing software.
If I use either Microsoft Word or Wordpad under WIndows XP and set the font to one which contains the plane 1 symbols, then the Alt-x method works fine.
When I type either 1D13D or 1d13d or 01D13D or 01d13d and follow it immediately with Alt-x the hexadecimal number changes into 𝄽 which is the quarter-rest symbol.
1D13C gives me 𝄼 which is the half-rest symbol.
1D13B gives me 𝄻 which is the full-rest symbol.
1D15E gives me 𝅗𝅥 which is the half-note symbol.
1D15D gives me 𝅝 which is the whole-note symbol.
The symbols look rather small at the normal Yahoo Answers resolution, but when I zoom in, they are clearly the proper symbols. To see these characters here you may have to use the Firefox web browser and also must have at least one font which has these characters in it.
I cannot determine why you are having this problem.
But you are confused in differentiating between Hexadecimal and Hex. “Hex” is just an short form for “hexadecimal”. Some charts do give both the Hexadecimal and Decimal (not Hex) values for Unicode characters.
Try the Euterpe font from http://openfontlibrary.org/media/files/Eimai/191 or the Musica font from http://users.teilar.gr/~g1951d/ . These are two free fonts which contain the Unicode Plane 1 musical symbols. If you don’t have the musical symbols in your current font in Word, you won’t see them.

i could say I consider numbers 4 and 5 a million) i in my opinion do no longer understand sufficient approximately this subject count number to agree or disagree. 2) If via "the music marketplace," you advise substantial record labels, sure. The have the desire to make funds, no longer sell artists. 3) purely because of the fact the business enterprise creates them does not advise that folk ought to hearken to them. 4 and 5 are easily appropriate. Even i'm responsible of quantity 5. i think of that rap sucks, yet it is with the aid of the fact what I hear is 50 Cent and Souljah Boy. If it is all it is accessible so a techniques as rap is going, then yeah, it sucks. i'm specific there is extra effective stuff accessible, yet i'm purely no longer digging for it. incredibly, there's a great quantity of stuff accessible, yet you purely ought to understand the place to get it. the genuine situation is human beings do no longer look previous the stable weight loss application of crap that comes from the main labels and radio stations.
