Why is humility looked upon as a weakness, rather than a strength?
I have seen some Christians apologizing on here for making mean posts about atheists, but they receive malicious comments, saying things like "Don't apologize dude, it makes you look weak and pathetic."
Why is strength of character looked upon as weakness?

Self-sufficiency and solid strength are traits that are very highly valued in today's culture (and indeed, in much of human culture throughout history). The cultural icons proclaim that, especially in a capitalistic society -- people that look out for themselves, don't show weakness, and never stop working hard are the ones that get very, very rich (and successful by the majority of standards) and (apparently) happy.
When you have something that is so strongly valued, the lack of it will be associated not being successful.
Is this association deserved? It cannot exactly be justified by logic (from only the first claim), really, but it's a very strong human tendency to make that association.
But this reasoning is why, to many people's objective systems of values, humility is viewed as unsuccess and therefore a weakness.

Because it is not a human trait to be humble, we are full of pride {the devil} and pride goes before a fell in Proverbs 16:18 and that is what Eve did in the garden when she looked at the fruit and saw that it was good for food, gave knowledge and made her like God, from the beginning mankind has wanted to dominate not serve and that is why humility is seen as weakness but it requires a very strong person to show humility and to be humble.

Think about the example Jesus set for us to follow by washing the feet of his disciples. And then giving up his life in order that millions might not loose theirs. I think that is the ultimate display of humility. In this world where arrogance and pride rule. The me-first mentality. I think a humble person stands taller above the rest. Humility is a Strength, not a weakness.

People don't understand strength. Our animal side thinks that causing pain is strength, but that is easy. Enduring pain is far more difficult, therefore greater strength is found in steadfastness.
Humility is also misunderstood. People equate it with unwillingness to act, when really it's an assumption that one has not learned all there is to know, and therefore is not arrogant. Few dispute that unchecked arrogance is harmful, but many of the same will fail to acknowledge its opposite as beneficial.

Because people don't like admitting a wrong. I agree with you, humility is a great attribute not a bad one.

I never seen any post as such mentioned before.
But its not a weakness....HOWEVER....Humility makes people weak, because they would fall for mostly anything and others would take advantages of that.

Dunno...On a post I just made, they got meaner, while in reality I was letting everyone know....that I didn't know something that is as true to them is real as my God is real to me. . Guess it's all in the wording...and I failed in the wording too...or else...some folks just like to be mean

many people have an extremely egotistical view of the world; they are very self-centered. also, society has some things backwards these days, such as calling evil good and calling good evil. interesting.

for the same reason that pride is seen as a fault, and modesty is a virtue.
And really, i believe it takes a lot of strength for someone to set aside their pride and such to apologize. it's actually very refreshing.

Humility is often confused with humiliation.
Usually by the illiterate.
"A modest view of ones own importance."
