The Shootist (1976) [John Bernard Books]: Mortally wounded by the bartender during a shoot-out in a saloon; he dies shortly after the end of the shoot-out.

It is just stated that he died, but there is no actual death scene. In "The Sea Chase" it is left to the audience to decide whether or not he died.
