The beaches we can get oil from other sources if we had only one choice. But we don't, and we can get Gulf Oil safely and even an environmental disaster like this we can get cleaned up and restore the beaches to their previous condition, as we did in Prince William Sound in Alaska.

My choice goes against gulf oil, because it's not just gulf beaches that are getting trashed. We are also losing gulf fishing, gulf shrimp, gulf tourism and gulf shipping, billion dollar industries all, due to the fact that big corporations don't care about others.

Doesn't the oil slick present in the gulf show we can't have both?
Beaches, please. We should buy every drop of foreign oil before we destroy our own coasts.

Until there is a viable alternative energy source, sadly, I would have to go with Oil!
Remember when you plug your electric car into the grid (as if anyone on this forum has an electric car) it is being charged by, in most cases, pollution spewing coal fired electric plants (80% of US power comes form coal).

I'll take the beach with the connected ocean ecosystem.
"But with the money, you can develop the beach later.." No, you can't you can buy sand. You can't buy a working system which supports a seafood industry and contributes tourism dollars to a broad selection of people.
For what? Billions in a foreign multi-national company's pocket. All at the cost of American jobs and industry.

Sad. Everyone says oil.
I suppose if I showed them a picture of a beautiful forest and a picture of a combination Pizza Hut/Taco Bell and said "Which would you prefer?" I guess I'd know what answer to expect.

But with the money, you can develop the beach later..

Beaches... its part of the ecosystem and we need food more than we need oil. Oil is a luxury, its not a necessity.
