Are there any grants available for single mom's, 35 and over, not teaching in low-income area?

I'm a teacher but unable to teach until I update my certification. I let it lapse b/c I was married and teaching in another state. Long story short, husband left me, I had to move back to NY, and I'm working on taking 12 credits (post-masters) to get my certifications back. This is only over the summer, and I start next week. I'm not sure if I would qualify for a Pell Grant or not? And if there are any private NY grants people may know of. Thanks...

If you already have a bachelor's degree (which i'm guessing you do as you are a teacher) you cannot receive the pell grant, even if you demonstrate considerable financial need. The only other 'grant' you can get (which i'm guessing you are aware of by your question title) is the TEACH grant, which does indeed involve working in a low-income area. Just keep in mind, however, that low-income areas do not always imply inner-city. Many suburban and rural schools fall under this category as well. You can always search and see what school districts are considered high-need on the federal financial aid website.

Other than that the only federal student aid that you may be eligible for are the federal stafford loans...which is better than nothing.

Sorry, have no info on NY state aid as i don't live there, but nothing would be available to someone in your situation in my state i can tell you that, so it may be the same there.

This is just one I found while reading your comment America has more to offer in the way of gov.grants even in personal grants for fixing cars and feeding your family but they tend to lean towards people that have a PLAN in business for a future,up to $50,000
